Who is Walter Duke? I am a father, a Dania Beach businessman, your current city commissioner and public servant, and a concerned citizen who has resided in Broward County for over 40 years.
I am the proud father of daughter Chloe, 17, and son, Connor, 16 and step-father to Kaitlyn, 18. Youth sports was one of my passions when I was younger, and I have continued that interest serving as a team coach. It was my honor to also be the founding chief of my daughter's YMCA Indian Princess Tribe in 1999. I also am married to Lisa Duke of Dania Beach and long time civic activist and supporter of many charities and not-for-profits.

Dania Beach is a progressive, vibrant community nestled next to the Atlantic Ocean with adjacency to international seaports and airports. The city offers a mix of beautiful weather, world-class beaches, shopping at the historic Antique Row, an emerging Design District anchored by the Design Center of the America's, an established and growing marine services industry and a rich history that serves as the foundation for a future of growth. Dania Beach combines the accessibility, charm and friendliness of small-town living with immediate access to everything a large, thriving metropolis has to offer.
I will continue to support and help lead my fellow constituents and activists who work hard to protect our communities affected by the threat of the expansion of the South runway at the airport. I will use all resources available and will make a consistent and deliberate effort to obtain help from federal and state agencies and elected officials to stop the expansion, and tell them that we are strong and fighting to protect our quality of life. My voting record is strong on this issue and I will do everything within my power to seek a less impactful solution than the south runway while fighting to make sure that our impacted residents are treated fairly and our city is protected.
I will continue to explore all options to promote the expansion of Dania Beach's commercial tax base by attracting high quality smart growth development in accordance with our master plan in order to help keep residential property taxes level while providing superior municipal services. I want to promote our current development efforts and provide support to our city's vital marine industry, as well as the arts and design district. I envision a city government that is responsive to its residents and business owners and provides superior municipal services and promotes a citywide economic revitalization. |
